Wine Australia’s annual China Roadshow is the most significant travelling Australian wine tasting in China, providing thousands of Chinese trade and media people with an opportunity to experience Australia’s diverse fine wine and to directly connect with Australian wine businesses.
Australia’s rich diversity of world-class wines were showcased at Wine Australia’s 2019 China Roadshow, which was held on 21-29 May 2019.
The four-city roadshow, now in its 8th successful year, brought together over 170 Australian wine brands and an opportunity to experience the premium quality and diversity of Australian wines. More than 4,000 trade, media and key opinion leaders attended the 11 master classes and the grand tastings of over 900 wines.
Tastings, exhibitions, and masterclasses were led by winemakers and experts, featured in the awareness and promotional drive which started in Tianjin on 21 May, Hangzhou on 23 May, Kunming on 27 May and concluded in Shenzhen on 29 May. The four-city event surpassed all expectations of engagement with trade visitors, including importers, distributors, wholesalers, sommeliers, buyers, media and influencers, from across the four cities and beyond.
With significant Australian Wine tasting opportunities at every stop, the roadshow showcased wines from exciting emerging winemakers as well as those from the world famous ‘Australian First Families of Wine’ (AFFW) - which includes wineries that date back to the 19th century.
2019 China Roadshow masterclasses included the Foundations of Australian Wine, AFFW Shiraz and Mature Icons, McLaren Vale Premium Cabernet and Premium Shiraz, Australia’s Great Chardonnays, Rare & Distinguished Barossa, and Diverse Australian Shiraz – ‘Full of Flavour, Not Pretence’.
In Hangzhou, a group of exhibitors from the roadshow toured the headquarters of Alibaba. This allowed exhibitors to learn more about Alibaba’s online retail platform TMall (www.tmall.com), along with various other important developments within Alibaba and the world of e-commerce.
‘With over AUD$1 billion worth of exports going to China, China is Australia’s most valuable overseas wine market. The China Roadshow is an important awareness and education driving activity for the Australian wine sector as well as providing an opportunity for exhibitors to meet new and existing clients.
It provides the Chinese wine trade, importers, distributors and media, information and tasting opportunities highlighting the quality, diversity and innovation within the Australian wine sector.’
