The Australian Geographical Indication "West Australian South East Coastal" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 1 May 1996 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

GI textual description:

The Geographical Indication "West Australian South East Coastal" is located within the State of Western Australia, Australia.

The beginning point of the boundary is located at the point where the western boundary of the Shire of Jerramungup and the eastern boundary of the Shire of Albany intesect the southern coast of Western Australia as formed by the Southern Ocean, and proceeds thence in generally north west direction along the south western boundary of the Shire of Jerramungup to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Gnowangerup to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Gnowangerup, and proceeds thence in a generally north direction along the western boundary of the Shire of Gnowangerup to its intersection with the northern boundary of the Shire of Gnowangerup, and proceeds thence generally east along the northern boundary of the Shire of Gnowangerup to its intersection with the northern boundary of the Shire of Jerramungup, and proceeds thence in a generally north east direction along the northern boundary of the Shire of Jerramungup to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Ravensthorpe, and proceeds thence in a generally north east, north and thence north west direction along the western boundary of the Shire of Ravensthorpe to its intersection with the northern boundary of the Shire of Ravensthorpe, and thence in a generally east and thence south direction along the northern boundary of the Shire of Ravensthorpe to its intersection with the northern boundary of the Shire of Esperance, and thence in a generally west direction along the northern boundary of the Shire of Esperance to its intersection with the eastern boundary of the Shire of Esperance, and thence generally south, east and thence south along the eastern boundary of the Shire of Esperance to its intersection with the southern boundary of Western Australia as formed by the Southern Ocean, and proceeds thence in a generally south west and thence west direction along the southern coastline of Western Australia to the beginning point.

The area so enclosed includes all of the Shires of Gnowangerup, Jerramungup, Ravensthorpe, Esperance and all adjoining islands.
