Far North Geographical Indication
The Australian Geographical Indication "Far North" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 27 December 1996 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

GI textual description:
The Geographical Indication "Far North" is located within the State of South Australia, Australia.
The beginning point of the boundary is located at the intersection of the Western Australia / Northern Territory / South Australia border, identified as Surveyor Generals Corner, and proceeds thence in a generally easterly direction along the Northern Territory / South Australia border passing through the intersection of the Northern Territory / Queensland / South Australia borders, and thence generally east along the Queensland / South Australia border to the north east extremity of the State of South Australia, identified as Haddon Corner, and thence in a generally south direction along the Queensland / South Australia Border to its intersection with the New South Wales / South Australia border, identified as Cameron Corner, and thence generally south along this border to the north east corner of the County of Hamley, and thence in a generally west direction along the northern boundary of the County of Hamley to its interection with the northern boundary of the County of Young, and thence generally west along the northern boundary of the County of Young to its intersection with the southern boundary of the County of Kimberley, and thence generally west along the southern boundary of the County of Kimberley to its intersectionwith the southern boundary of the Hundred of Whyte, and thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Whyte to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Hundred of Belalie, and thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Belalie to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Hundred of Yangya, and thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Yangya to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Hundred of Booyoolie, and thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Booyoolie to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Hundred of Napperby, and thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Napperby to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Hundred of Pirie, and thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Pirie to its intersection with the coastline of Spencer Gulf between Jarrold Point and Wood Point, and thence following the eastern coastline of Spencer Gulf in a generally north direction to its northernmost point, and thence in a generally south south west direction following the western coastline of Spencer Gulf to its intersection with the southern boundary of the City of Whyalla located to the north of Plank Point, and thence generally west along the southern boundary of the City of Whyalla to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Hundred of Batchelor, and thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Batchelor to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Hundred of Moonabie, and thence generally west along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Moonabie to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Hundred of Nilginee, and thence generally west along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Nilginee to its intersection with the southern boundary of the District Council of Kimba, and thence generally west along the southern boundary of the District Council of Kimba to its intersection with the southern boundary of the District Council of Le Hunte, and thence generally west, thence generally north, and thence generally west along the southern boundary of the District Council of Le Hunte to its intersection with the southern boundary of the District Council of Streaky Bay, and thence generally west along the southern boundary of the District Council of Streaky Bay to its intersection with the northern coastline of Venus Bay, and thence following the coastline of Venus Bay in a generally south west and thence south east direction to Point Weyland, and thence in a generally north west direction and thence in a generally west direction following the coastline of South Australia as defined by the Great Australian Bight (Southern Ocean) to its intersection with the Western Australia / South Australia border located to the east of the township of Eucla (Western Australia), and thence generally north along the Western Australia / South Australia border to the beginning point.
The area so enclosed includes all of the District Council of Carrieton, the District Council of Coober Pedy, the District Council of Hawker, the District Council of Kanyaka-Quorn, the District Council of Kimba, the District Council of Le Hunte, the District Council of Mount Remarkable, the District Council of Murat Bay, the District Council of Orroroo, the District Council of Peterborough, the City of Port Pirie, the District Council of Streaky Bay, and those areas of the District Council of Crystal Brook - Red Hill, the District Council of Hallett, the District Council of Jamestown, the District Council of Pirie, the District Council of Rocky River lying to the north of the described boundary, and all of the City of Port Augusta and the City of Whyalla, the Corporate Town of Peterborough, the Corporate Town of Roxby Downs, and all of the Un-incorporated areas and other lands to the north of the described boundary lying within the State of South Australia.
