Eastern Plains - Inland and North WA Geographical Indication

The Australian Geographical Indication "Eastern Plains, Inland and North of Western Australia" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 1 May 1996 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

GI textual description:

The Geographical Indication "Eastern Plains, Inland and North of Western Australia" is located within the State of Western Australia, Australia.

The beginning point of the boundary is located at the intersection of the southern boundary of the Shire of Coorow and the Indian Ocean and proceed thence along the coastline of Western Australia in a generally north and then north-east direction to its intersection with the Northern Territory border at or about Longtitude 129° and proceed thence in a generally south direction along the Western Australia / Northern Territory border to its intersection with the Western Australia / South Australia border, and proceeds thence in a generally south direction along the Western Australia / South Australia border to its intersection with the southern coast of Western Australia as formed by the Southern Ocean, and proceeds thence in a generally west direction along the southern coast of Western Australia to its intersection with the most southerly point of the southern boundary of the Shire of Dundas where it meets the Southern Ocean , and proceeds thence in a generally north, west, north, west, south, and thence west direction along the southern boundary of the Shire of Dundas to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Kondinin, and proceed thence generally west along the southern boundary of the Shire of Kondinin to its intersection with the eastern boundary of the Shire of Lake Grace, and proceeds thence in a generally south east and thence south west direction along the eastern boundary of Shire of Lake Grace to its intersectrion with the eastern boundary of Shire of Kent, and proceeds thence in a generally south west and thence west direction along the southern boundary of the Shire of Kent to its south west corner, and proceeds thence in a generally northern direction along the western boundary of the Shire of Kent to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Dumbleyung, and proceeds thence generally west along the southern boundary of the Shire of Dumbleyung and thence generally north along the western boundary of the Shire of Dumbleyung to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Wickepin, and proceeds thence generally west along the southern boundary of the Shire of Wickepin to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Wickepin, and proceeds thence generally north, north west, north, east and thence north along the western boundary of the Shire of Wickepin to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Corrigin, and thence in a generally north west direction along the western boundary of the Shire of Corrigin to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Quairading, and proceeds thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Shire of Quairading to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Quairading, and proceeds thence in a generally north direction along the western boundary of the Shire of Quairading to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Cunderdin, and proceeds thence in a generally north west direction along the southern and thence western boundaries of the Shire of Cunderdin to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Goomalling, and proceeds thence generally west along the southern boundary of the Shire of Goomalling and thence generally north along the western boundary of the Shire of Goomalling to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Wongan - Ballidu, and proceeds thence in a generally north direction along the western boundary of the Shire of Wongan - Ballidu to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Dalwallinu, and proceeds thence in a generally north and thence generally north west direction along the western boundary of the Shire of Dalwallinu to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Coorow, and proceeds thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Shire of Coorow to its intersection with the Indian Ocean, the beginning point.The area so enclosed includes all of the Shires of Wyndham-East Kimberley, Derby-West Kimberley, Broome, Halls Creek, Port Hedland, Roebourne, Exmouth, Ashburton, East Pilbara, Carnarvon, Upper Gasgoyne, Meekatharra, Wiluna, Shark Bay, Murchison, Cue, Northampton, Chapman Valley, Mullewa, Yalgoo, Mount Magnet, Greenough, Irwin, Mingenew, Three Springs, Morawa, Perenjori, Carnamah, Coorow, Dalwallinu, Mount Marshall, Wongan-Ballidu, Koorda, Mukinbudin, Goomalling, Dowerin, Wyalkatchem, Trayning, Nungarin, Cunderdin, Tammin, Kellerberrin, Merriden, Quairading, Bruce Rock, Narembeen, Corrigin, Kondinin, Wickepin, Kulin, Dumbleyung, Kent, Lake Grace, Sandstone, Leonora, Laverton, Menzies, Westonia, Yilgarn, Coolgardie, Boulder, Dundas, and all adjacent islands.The area so enclosed also includes the City of Geraldton, and the Town of Kalgoorlie.
