The Australian Geographical Indication "Cowra" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 16 Octoer 1998 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

The beginning point of the boundary is situated on the 400 metre contour line on Map Cudal (Sheet 8631-II & III) at grid reference FC499000; then continue east along the grid line 000 to the 400 metre contour line at grid reference FC503000, then continue along the 400 metre contour line in a generally east south easterly direction until its intersection with Namami Lane at grid reference FC544992, then continue along the 400 metre contour line in a generally south easterly direction to edge of map at grid reference FC602919; On to Map Canowindra (Sheet 8630-I & IV) at grid reference FC602919, then continue along the 400 metre contour line in a south easterly and then north easterly direction to edge of map at grid reference FC605919;
