The Australian Geographical Indication "Geelong" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 11 June 1996 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

The Geographical Indication "Geelong" is located within the Geographical Indication "Port Phillip" within the State of Victoria, Australia.
The beginning point of the boundary is located on the southern coastline of the State of Victoria (as defined by the Southern Ocean) forming the southwestern boundary of the County of Grant at the mouth of the Anglesea River, this being the southernmost point of the Parish of Jan Juc, thence north along the said river to the confluence with Salt Creek, thence in a westerly direction along Salt Creek, being the southern boundary of the County of Grant and of the Parishes of Jan Juc and Wormbete, thence in a northwesterly and northerly direction along the western boundary of the County of Grant and of the parishes of Wormbete and Tutegong, thence generally northwards by the Barwon River which forms the western boundary of the Parishes of Tutegong, Lake Lake Wollard and Carrung-e-Murnong to the confluence with the Yarrowee River, thence in a generally northerly direction along that river, which forms the western boundary of the Parishes of Carrah and Bamganie and part of the Parish of Cargerie to the northwestern boundary of the Shire of Bannockburn, thence generally in an easterly and northerly and then easterly direction by the northern boundary of the Shire of Bannockburn which includes part of the Parishes of Cargerie and Meredith and which also forms the northern boundary of the Parish of Moreep; thence in a generally easterly direction by the northern boundary of the Shire of Corio, which also forms the northern boundaries of the Parishes of Anakie and Lara, to the Little River at the north-western corner of the Parish of Lara; thence in a southeasterly direction by that river which forms the northern boundary of the parish of Lara, north-east boundary of Wurdi-Youang and the northern boundary of Murtcaim to the shore of Port Phillip Bay; and thence south-westerly, easterly, southerly and south-westerly by the shore of that bay and Bass Strait to the point of commencement.
The Geographical Indication "Geelong" so described includes all of the Shire of Barrabool, included in which are the Parishes of Gnarwarre, Modewarre, Barrabool, Duneed, Paraparap, Jan Juc and part of Puebla; part of the Shire of Winchelsea, included in which are the Parishes of Wormbete, Gherang Gherang, Tutegong, Lake Lake Wollard and Carrung-e-Murnong; the Shire of Bannockburn, included in which are the Parishes of Murgheboluc, Gheringhap, Wabdallah, Darriwil, Bamganie, Coolebarghurk, Durdiwarrah, Mooreep, and part of the Shire of Buninyong, which includes parts of the Parishes of Cargerie and of Meredith; part of the Shire of Leigh, included in which are part of the Parishes of Carrah and Burtwarrah; the Shire of Corio except that portion of the Parish of Balliang which is within the Shire of Corio and north of the Little River, included in Corio Shire are the Parishes of Anakie, Lara, Wurdi Youang, Yowang, Moranghurk, Woornyalook, Murtcaim, Moorpanyal; the Cities of Geelong, Geelong West and Newtown; the Shire of Bellarine, included in which are the Parishes of Moolap, Bellarine and Paywit; the Borough of Queenscliffe, the City of South Barwon, included in which is the Parish of Connewarren and part of the Parish of Puebla and includes all adjoining islands.
