The landscape of Australian wine has never looked more exciting, with 65 distinct regions producing innovative and diverse wines of exceptional quality, Australia is one of the most historically interesting wine growing countries on Earth.

The Foundations of Australian Wine Master Class is our way of introducing the world to Australian wine and the people, places and processes that make it so exciting.

Join wine educator Terry Xu, who will introduce you to some of Australia’s most famous varieties and styles from some of the nation’s most iconic wine regions. This master class will explore the unique characteristics of each wine and the influences of the diverse landscape, climate and winemaking techniques that all contribute to shaping the distinctive Australian styles.

Having recently celebrated 50 years, Margaret River wine region is young in terms of wine history, but the region is one of the oldest in the world with ancient soils, culture and unique biodiversity.

Located in the south west corner of Australia, with oceans to the north, west and south and the Leeuwin-Naturaliste ridge to the east provide a pristine Mediterranean environment and perfect viticultural paradise.

This tasting will focus on iconic Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon wines and will provide a look at the region’s Cabernet Sauvignon story. From the soils, maritime influence and unique Houghton clone, all which contribute to this boutique region producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.

Discover the diversity and unique Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon identity of elegance, balance and graceful age-ability that places Margaret River on the world stage of exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon.

Pinot Noir has become an integral variety, with winemakers crafting unique Australian expressions, with quality at an all-time high.

“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts” is a saying that applies well to blended wines. Australia has a tradition of blending going back to the earliest days of the nascent Australian wine industry. Today, blends are becoming more popular and are beginning to increase their footprint, creating styles where each variety can reach new heights when united with another variety – its colour, aroma, texture and flavours boosted by the character traits of its blending partner.

Australia's iconic red wine, known for their bold flavours and diversity of styles. Shiraz comes in many styles – from delicious, everyday drinking to collectible fine wines. Warm climates usually produce powerful and rich styles, while cooler climate wines are lighter and elegant in style.

It’s the variety with more...well, variety, Chardonnay can be anything from elegant and vibrant to rich and big-flavoured, oaked and unoaked styles.

Australia’s rich winemaking and viticultural history dates back to the early 19th century, and the country boasts some of the oldest grapevines in the world, grown in some of the oldest geology and most complex terroirs in the world. These unique vines and the grapes they produce have played – and continue to play – a pivotal role in Australia’s grape and wine community.
