Development of new revenues for winegrape producers - decision support tools
Summary
Objective
The aim of the project is to deliver an online decision tool and associated extension materials and activities to identify and support the adoption of new revenue opportunities by Australian winegrape producers. The project will focus on the inland regions of Riverland, Riverina and Murray Valley and support winegrape growers in these regions to evaluate new opportunities to diversify and secure their farm businesses.
Background
The development of the New revenues for winegrape producers decision support tools emerged from discussions between AgriFutures Australia’s New Enterprises Program, PIRSA-SARDI, and the Viticulture and Wine Working Group. The Working Group was formed with the aim to develop recommendations for the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) to support the wine industry amid global market challenges.
From these recommendations, the Australian Government announced a $3.5 million Grape and Wine Sector Long-term Viability Support Package to help reposition the sector into long-term sustainability. This support package included funds to conduct this project.
