Travel bursary application for participating in the international conference “MACROWINE 2018, Macromolecules and Metabolites which Make Wine Magic”
Abstract
The awarded Wine Australia travel grant allowed Ms Xinyi Zhang to attend and present at Macrowine 2018 which was in Zaragoza, Spain. The oral presentation was titled ‘A novel one-step measurement of total volatile aldehyde compounds in wine by LC-QQQ-MS’. It detailed a novel means of measuring the total aldehyde concentration in red and white wines. In addition, the travel grant enabled a research visit to the lab of Dr. Vincente Ferreira by Ms Xinyi Zhang.
Summary
The Wine Australia travel grant awarded to me was used to support my travel to attend the international conference: MACROWINE 2018, ‘Macromolecules and metabolites which make wine magic’, held in Zaragoza (Spain), from 28 to 31 May 2018. This conference specialised in topics dealing with making more acceptable, balanced and flavour-rich wines, richer in antioxidants and bioactive molecules, minimizing SO2 while improving stability, and lower levels of alcohol. The conference consisted of 35 oral presentations and 159 posters, focused on the following 7 topics: perceptions and emotions in wine consumption; wine sensoactive molecules; metabolites and macromolecules; wine stability: chemistry, microbiology, technology; vine/grape: quality, maturation, treatments, varieties; microbiological diversity and quality and bioactivity and physiology.
