Oral/Poster presentation at the IX International Symposium on Mineral Nutrition of Fruit Crop, Israel, June 27 – July 1, 2021

Abstract

The travel grant from Wine Australia allowed Tintu Baby to attend the IX International Symposium on Mineral Nutrition of Fruit Crops. This symposium was originally planned to take place in 2020 in Israel, but due to the corona virus outbreak it was postponed to 28th to 30th of June 2021 and shifted to a virtual format. The symposium had 220 participants from 35 countries. There were 14 parallel sessions covering the following topics relating to fruit crop nutrition:

  • Physiological aspects of mineral nutrition
  • Genetics and plant nutrition
  • Sustainable approaches to nutrient management (including soil management, inter-cropping, and bio-fertilizers)
  • Diagnosis of plant nutrient status
  • Plant nutrient status and fruit quality
  • Bio-active compounds and mineral nutrition
  • Role of plant-microbe interactions in mineral nutrition
  • Trends in fertilizer consumption
  • Nutrient losses>
  • Mineral supply technology
  • Rootstock and root architecture
  • Plant mineral nutrition and human nutrition
  • Mineral nutrition under arid conditions
  • Interactions between water quality and nutrition
  • Sensing, data and tools for decision-making
  • Interactions between biotic and abiotic stress and nutrition

The award of this travel grant also allowed Tintu to participate in the 18th Australian Wine Industry Technical Conference & Trade Exhibition in Adelaide from the 26th to 29th of June 2022. It is the leading technical event for the Australian wine industry held in every three years. This conference combines an extensive program of plenary sessions, workshops, posters, student forum and social events with the industry’s most respected and extensive trade exhibition.

Summary

The IX Symposium on Mineral Nutrition of Fruit Crops was held from the 28th to 30th June 2021 on a virtual platform. The award of this travel grant allowed Tintu Baby, Post-doctoral Research Fellow at Charles Sturt University, to participate in the symposium and to deliver an oral presentation titled “Differential accumulation of potassium in the vegetative and reproductive organs of three grapevine cultivars”. Over the course of the symposium there were 220 participants from 35 countries. It included 7 invited keynote lectures, 73 additional oral presentations and 44 posters, presented by people from 24 countries. Various topics on mineral nutrition of fruit crops including grapevines were covered in different sessions.

The award of this travel grant also allowed Tintu to participate in the 18th Australian Wine Industry Technical Conference & Trade Exhibition and to deliver a poster presentation titled “An image library of the visual symptoms of grapevine nutrient disorders”. The 18th AWITC was held in Adelaide over four days, featuring 11 core plenary sessions with 49 presentations. Over 30 technical workshops covering a range of themes and 8 business workshops were presented in the conference.

The attendance to these two symposiums were unique opportunities to present Tintu’s research findings to prestigious research platforms, and to interact with experts in vine nutrition and viticulture research and to gain new knowledge, which is applicable to Tintu’s current research.
