Uncertainty and opportunities – the ‘Brexit’

In February 2016, UK Prime Minister David Cameron announced that a referendum on whether Britain should remain in the European Union will be held on Thursday 23 June 2016. The Impact of the Brexit on Australian wine exports report discusses what it might mean for Australian exports to the United Kingdom if Britain does decide to leave; in particular, what the effect might be on import duties, the impact for our competitors and the wider economic factors.

The Road to China

The China Import Monitor reports that Australian bottled wine imports to China increased by 85 per cent in value to US$489 million, according to customs data for the year ending February 2016. Australia is second to France in imports, and has the highest growth rates in the top 10 source countries in both the value and volume of bottled wine.

If you are interested in exporting wine to China, the first stop should be our Export Market Guide: China (free for levy payers). For a discussion about the free trade agreement, cultural and logistical insights, and first steps to market entry, you might like to view a webinar we hosted in February 2015 with Wine Communicators of Australia, Road to China: Trade + Business + Culture’.
