Australia dominates in the UK off-trade

This quarter’s report from the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (UK) shows that Australian wines are performing very well in market, according to the latest Nielsen data. While Australia has been number 1 in the off-trade for a long time, it is also experiencing strong growth rates in both the volume and value of sales, growing by 5 and 3 per cent respectively in the year ended April 2016. However, in the on-trade Australia still faces a challenge to overcome France and Italy, which keep consolidating their lead at the top.

AVL releases their crush figures

While Australian Vintage Ltd crushed 99,000 tonnes in vintage 2016, compared with 114,000 tonnes last year, yields from AVL’s own vineyards are 16 per cent above last year’s. Pleasingly, AVL is reporting a stand-out vintage with strong indications of high-quality grapes. The decrease in volume is attributed to reduced contract processing, some grape sales and reduced volumes of purchases from third-party growers.
