Insights for Australian wine in Hong Kong
Weekly Market Bulletin | Issue 10
Hong Kong’s Vinexpo kicks off today. Vinexpo is considered one of Asia’s most influential wine shows and Wine Australia is hosting 29 wineries.
Hong Kong is a key export market for Australia. In the 12 months to 31 March 2016, we exported Australian wine to the value of $129 million to Hong Kong, up 17 per cent on the previous year and cementing Hong Kong as our fifth most valuable export market. Total wine imports to Hong Kong increased by 23 per cent to 64.6 million litres in the year ended January 2016 and Australia is second within the countries of origin.
Vinexpo’s audience goes beyond the local markets of Hong Kong and mainland China and it’s one of our most important trade engagement activities for the Asia Pacific region. It gives us the opportunity on a large-scale to open the eyes and minds of Asia’s most influential wine professionals to the modern face of Australian wine. It’s an ideal platform to challenge preconceptions about our wines and make sure we’re getting our messages and stories heard by the influencers who matter. Wine Australia will host a series of master classes covering the history, evolution and revolution of Australian Shiraz, wines and winemakers who are pushing the boundaries, the newly launched Australian Wine Flavours Card, and Australian cool climate wines.
