Variety snapshots are one-page profiles of individual Australian winegrape varieties and provide at-a-glance summary statistics on: viticulture data, winegrape production, winegrape price, key producing regions and export sales data compared against the same statistics for all wine grape varieties.

There are over 130 winegrape varieties known to be crushed in Australia in 2020. Of these, the top 10 reds and top 10 white varieties make up over 95 per cent of the crush, while the other 100 or so ‘alternative’ varieties provide diversity in expression and allow for experimentation. Some alternative varieties are rare in Australia, such as Assyrtiko and Saperavi that are only planted by a handful of grapegrowers, and some are on the verge of graduating to mainstream, like Tempranillo and Sangiovese.
