Swan Hill Geographical Indication

The Australian Geographical Indication "Swan Hill" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 11 June 1996 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

GI textual description:

The Geographical Indication "Swan Hill" is located partly within the Geographical Indication of "North West Victoria" within the State of Victoria, Australia, and partly within the Geographical Indication of "Big Rivers" located within the State of New South Wales, Australia.

The beginning point is the north west corner of the proposed geographical indication "SWAN HILL" which is defined by the railway station ‘Kooloonong’ and is located at map grid reference XG9638 (Map SI 54-12) and proceeds thence in a generally easterly direction following the Kooloonong-Hayesdale Road to Hayesdale and proceeds thence in a generally north easterly direction following the vehicle track to grid reference YG1340 and proceeds thence easterly along grid line 614 to the intersection of the Rivers Murray and Wakool at grid reference YG1440 and proceeds thence into the State of New South Wales in a generally south easterly direction following the River Wakool to the township of Kyalite at grid reference YG2729 and proceeds thence in a generally south westerly direction following the Kyalite-Tooleybuc Road to the place where three roads meet at grid reference YG2427 and proceeds thence in a generally south easterly direction following the Kyalite-Swan Hill Road to its intersection with the Moulamein-Swan Hill Road at grid reference YF3893 (Map SI 54-16) and proceeds thence in a generally south westerly direction following the Moulamein-Swan Hill Road to the point where this road crosses the River Murray via a road bridge at grid reference YF3386 and proceeds thence in a generally south easterly direction following the River Murray along the New South Wales and Victorian border to grid reference YF6070 and proceeds thence southerly into the State of Victoria along grid line 760 to grid reference YF6050 and proceeds thence westerly along grid line 605 to grid reference YF2050 and proceeds thence northerly along grid line 720 to intersect with the Swan Hill-Kooloonong railway line at grid reference YF2093 and proceeds thence in a generally north westerly direction following the Swan Hill-Kooloonong railway line to its intersection with the Chillingollah Road at grid reference YF0096 and proceeds thence in a northerly direction along grid line 700 to intersect the Swan Hill-Kooloonong railway line at grid reference YG0034 (Map SI 54-12) and proceeds thence in a generally north westerly direction following the Swan Hill-Kooloonong railway line to the beginning point at Kooloonong.
