The Australian Geographical Indication "Barossa" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 27 December 1996 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

The geographical indication "Barossa" is located within the geographical indication "Adelaide" within the State of South Australia, Australia.

The beginning point of the boundary is identified on the map: TRURO 6729-3, and is located at the intersection of the Hundreds of Belvidere, Julia Creek and Dutton at a topographical feature identified as "Mount Rufus", and proceeds thence in a generally south-west direction and thence in a generally south direction along the eastern boundary of the Hundred of Belvidere to its intersection with the Hundred of Jellicoe, and proceeds thence in a generally east direction along the northern boundary of the Hundred of Jellicoe to its intersection with the eastern boundary of the Hundred of Jellicoe (refer to map: SANDELTON 6729-II), and proceeds thence in generally southern direction along the eastern boundary of the Hundred of Jellicoe to its intersection with the southern boundary Hundred of Jellicoe (refer to map: CAMBRAI 6728-1), and proceeds thence in a generally westerly direction along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Jellicoe (refer to map: ANGASTON 6728 4), until its intersection with the eastern boundary Hundred of Jutland, and proceeds thence in a generally south direction along the eastern boundary of the Hundred of Jutland to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Hundred of Jutland (refer to map: TEPKO 6728-III), and proceeds thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Jutland to its intersection with the western boundary of the Hundred of Jutland (refer to map: ANGASTON 6728-4), and proceeds thence in a generally north by north west direction along the western boundary of the Hundred of Jutland, and continues thence in a generally north direction along the western boundary of the Hundred of Jutland until a point adjacent to grid reference UG213580, and proceeds thence in a generally west direction along grid reference UG580 until it intersects the southern boundary of the Hundred of Barossa (refer to map" BAROSSA 6628-1), at grid reference UG148580, and proceeds thence in a generally west direction along the southern boundary of the Hundred of Barossa (South Para River) until its intersection with the southern boundary of the Hundred of Nuriootpa, within the City of Gawler (refer to map: GAWLER 6628-4), and thence proceeding in a generally northern direction along the western boundary of the Hundred of Nuriootpa (refer to map: HAMLEY BRIDGE 6629-III, and map: BAROSSA 6628-1), to the intersection of the northern boundary of the Hundred of Nuriootpa, and proceeds thence in a generally north east direction along the northern boundary of the Hundred of Nuriootpa through the township identified as "Freeling" (refer to map: KAPUNDA 6629-II), to its intersection with the Hundred of Belvidere, and proceeds thence in a generally north direction along the western boundary of the Hundred of Belvidere to its intersection with the northern boundary of Hundred of Belvidere, and proceeds thence in a generally north east direction along the northern boundary of the Hundred of Belvidere (identified as the River Light), (refer to map: TRURO 6729-3), and proceeds thence in an easterly direction along the northern boundary of the Hundred of Belvidere until it intersect with the Hundreds of Julia Creek and Dutton at the topographical feature identified as "Mount Rufus" - the beginning point.
