The Australian Geographical Indication "Albany" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 28 July 1999 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

GI textual description:
The Geographical Indication "Albany" is located within the region Great Southern, within the zone South West Australia, within the State of Western Australia, Australia.
The beginning point of the boundary is situated on Map Mount Barker (Sheet SI 50-11) at grid reference NG450490, being the north west corner of the Geographical Indication, then proceeds easterly along grid line 490 to grid reference PG000490, then proceeds southerly along grid line 000 to its intersection with the coastline at grid reference NG000275, then proceed generally south westerly along the coastline to the edge of map at grid reference NG970265; On to Map Albany (Sheet SI 50-15) at grid reference NG970265, then continues generally westerly along the coastline to Knapp Head at grid reference NG450167, then proceeds northerly along grid line 450 to the edge of map at grid reference NG450268; On to Map Mount Barker (Sheet SI 50-11) at grid reference NG450268 and continue northerly along grid line 450 to grid reference NG450490, which is the descriptor starting point.
