Evolving, emerging wine regions

Queensland has a wine history dating back over 150 years – and like all good wines it has developed with age. Vines were first planted at Roma and in the Granite Belt region in the 1860s and today Queensland regions are producing world-class wines thanks to a slew of dedicated producers. Queensland has two recognised GIs with the Granite Belt and South Burnett regions but as wine tourism gathers momentum, the burgeoning industry has seen more trail blazers emerge and cellar doors open.

In recent times vignerons have gone beyond the traditional varieties of Chardonnay, Semillon, Shiraz , Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and have passionately embraced the alternative varieties such as Tempranillo, Viognier and many others
