Summary
The Pangborn Symposium is an eminent, international meeting of sensory and consumer scientists held biannually in order to acknowledge the late Rose Marie Pangborn’s spearheading work in, and contribution to, the field of sensory science. Over the five days, the program comprised 2 keynote presentations, 11 plenary sessions, 12 oral sessions, 6 workshops and 533 posters. Approximately 861 participants from over 30 different countries attended the conference with 443 attendees presenting research. The symposium focussed on the following themes: • Advances in sensory tools and methods • Challenges in emerging markets • Cross-cultural sensory and consumer research • Food choice and consumer behaviour • Sensory driven product design • Culinary arts and science • Sensory Fundamentals • Beyond food-Applying sensory science in other contexts • Frontiers in Sensometrics • Sensory and consumer science in a changing world • Sensory drivers for health and well being • Age-related sensory perception and behaviour Many networking opportunities were provided by way of the lunch breaks, poster sessions, and symposium dinner, where it was possible to meet with other conference delegates to discuss current research directions and the potential for collaboration. This meeting also permitted time to interact with existing collaborative connections. Although it also covers basic sensory, consumer and non-food product research it was all translatable to wine-related research.
