Crop protection impacts on winegrapes

Abstract

The Australian Wine Research Institute has developed a method of analysis for the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in grapes and wine. In Australia, the MRL for 2,4-D in grapes is 0.05 mg/kg. In a survey of 102 Australian wines from vintages 2000−2004, no wines contained 2,4-D in excess of 0.05 mg/L. In a further analysis of 191 Australian wine from the 2005 and 2006 vintages, no wine contained 2,4-D in excess of 0.05 mg/L, and 29 grapes samples also from the 2005 and 2006 vintages did not contain 2,4-D in excess of 0.05 mg/L.
