Presentation and participation at the 1st International Symposium on grapevine roots in Rauscedo (Italy) and visits to the universitities of Bologna and Gelsenhelm

Abstract

The visit of the University of Bologna allowed discussions on viticulture and grapevine nutrition between Bruno Hotzapfel, Prof. Adamo Rombolà and his research group and the visits of four wineries in the Emilia-Romagna wine region. Attending the International Symposium on grapevine roots provided the opportunity to gain knowledge of the current efforts in root research and to present a paper on recent research titled 'Effect of N and water supply on xylem composition in Semillon and Riesling'. At the Geisenheim University in Germany discussion and meetings were held with Prof. Manfred Stoll, Prof. Otmar Löhnertz and others in relation to plant nutrition and carbohydrate physiology. Two articles were published on grapevine nutrition and the knowledge gained from participation in the Symposium is being incorporated in seminars and lectures.
