Attendance & presentation at the 14th International Congress on Yeasts (ICY14) at Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center, Awaji Island, Japan, in September 11-15, 2016

Abstract

The 14th International Congress on Yeasts (ICY14) was held at Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center, Awaji Island, Japan, from the 11th and 15th of September 2016. The meeting attracted around 440 participants, from about 40 countries (including Japan, South Korea, Italy, Mexico and USA). Chien-Wei Huang attended ICY14, presented his current wine yeast research and networked with other international yeast researchers working in the food and beverage fields.

Summary

Chien-Wei Huang is a PhD candidate at The University of Adelaide, supervised by Professor Vladimir Jiranek. Chien-Wei Huang presented a poster and gave a talk on his current research, entitled “Identification of yeast genes responsible for the production of hydrogen sulfide and volatile thiols in wine” at ICY14. The ICY14 programme consisted of eleven plenary lectures, ten presentations in the food and beverage session, five seminars and the poster exhibition session. Presentations of interest and relevance to grape and wine science from Professor Hiroshi Takagi (Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan), Professor Sakkie Pretorius (Macquarie University, Australia), Dr. Satoshi Harashima (Sojo University, Japan), Associate Professor Vivien Measday (University of British Columbia, Canada), Dr Stijn De Graeve (KU Leuven) and several groups from France and Italy are summarized in the report.
