Canada is Australia’s fourth largest wine export market by value and continues to grow. In the year ended June 2016, the value of wine exported to Canada increased by 7 per cent to $195 million. The average value per litre of bottled wine increased by 6 per cent to $5.56. Canada’s import volume grew by 5 per cent in the year ended May 2016 and Australia sits third in total volume behind the United States and Italy.

Wine Intelligence’s ‘Awakenings’ blog reports that Canada is one of the most highly regulated alcohol markets in the world, although this looks to be slowly changing. Currently, Canada’s alcohol market is a maze of federal and provincial regulations. However, changes are now being introduced at both the grassroots and governmental levels.
