Ciatti’s World Report on pricing for May 2016 has revealed that, due to heavy rains during harvest, the Chilean crop has been drastically affected. This has placed pressure on supply, which is pushing up prices across the board, with Australia benefitting across a variety of wine styles.

It is too early to see the result of these higher prices for Australian bulk wine exports to the United Kingdom, which is our largest market for bulk wine. In the UK, as in all our key export markets, there is a move to higher priced wines, albeit the change is slower in the UK than other markets. Australian exports have increased in value by 1 per cent to $373 million and decreased in volume by 3 per cent to 244 million litres, resulting in an increase in average FOB price of 4 per cent to $1.53 per litre.
