Aria Brisbane recognised as a champion of Australian wine
Wine Australia offers its congratulations to ARIA BRISBANE and Head Sommelier Ian Trinkle for being awarded the trophy for Best Listing of Australian Wines in the 2014 Wine List of the Year Awards announced on Monday, 28 July 2014.
Sponsored by Wine Australia, the award recognises ARIA BRISBANE’S attention to showcasing the quality, regionality and diversity of Australian wine through its wine list. Sister restaurant ARIA SYDNEY won in the same category in 2012 demonstrating the commitment of the restaurant group to featuring an impressive range of Australian wines for diners to enjoy.
ARIA BRISBANE’S Head Sommelier Ian Trinkle was thrilled when he learnt of the award win.
'As a group ARIA has always focused on having a well-represented range of Australian wines available in our restaurants. In Brisbane, I’ve been particularly excited to see our local Queensland wine regions start to build a reputation for producing wines of great quality.
'In general, I think we’re seeing more wines that are true expressions of the regions they come from which is a great sign for the health of the Australian wine industry.'
In welcome news for the industry, the category itself experienced extraordinary growth this year with 63 per cent more entries for Best Listing of Australian Wines, indicating support of Australian wine by the on-premise trade is on the rise.
The judging panel, led by Chairman of Judges Peter Forrestal, was comprised of 30 industry experts from the food and wine industry including Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, wine judges and food and wine writers from both Australia and overseas.
ARIA BRISBANE and the other award winners were announced at an invitation only event held in the Ivy Ballroom with MCs and award judges Peter Bourne and Mike Bennie.
Wine Australia also offers its congratulations to category finalists The Botanical (VIC), The Point Albert Park (VIC) and FermentAsian (SA).
