A wine export licence is required for all export consignments of wine greater than 100 litres. Each product in a consignment must be registered with Wine Australia and approved for export before an exporter can apply for shipping approval.
Under the new regulations, only a licensee (a holder of a licence that is in force) can apply for approval of a grape product for export. This means that products can no longer be registered under expired licences. Once product approval is given, and the continuing approval number is supplied, then that product can be included in an application for shipping approval or be supplied to an associated exporter for use in their approval application.
Shipping approval
Applying for shipping approval should be done at least five days before the cut-off date for your shipment. If details such as departure date, vessel name or volumes change, this can be easily updated by the exporter themselves up until the departure date. After the departure date has passed, any changed details mean that the shipment will need to be manually re-approved by the Export Assistance team.
Customs certificates
VI1 certificates required for EU market countries and some countries neighbouring the EU are generated and printed five days after the departure date of the shipment in the system. These hard copy certificates are then posted out to exporters.
Wine Australia can also provide a range of other certificates required for clearing customs in the importing market, including the ChAFTA Certificate of Origin and Free Sale certificate. We recommend, when possible, waiting until the departure date of the vessel before applying for any certificates. This prevents having to amend certificates if the departure date or vessel name changes prior to departure.
The export assistance team is available to help with any questions you may have about the export process, or requirements for export markets. Enquiries can be sent to exports@wineaustralia.com
